2024 anagama collection coming soon!
In July I had the privilege of helping Ian Jones and friends fire the 6 metre long anagama style kiln at Old Saint Lukes Studio in Gundaroo.
I made a collection of porcelain and stoneware work especially for this firing. The collection is intentionally eclectic, to making the most of the opportunities that this amazing kiln provides.
Each piece reflects a unique combination of clay, glaze, kiln position, and wood ash from the firing.
Firing the anagama is a huge project, and I’m incredibly lucky to be able to learn more about it each year from Ian. He has been building and firing kilns like this for half a century, and his depth of knowledge is mind bending.
For half a year prior to this firing we split and stack around 12 tonnes of pine diverted from landfill.
During the firing itself we burn pretty much all that wood, 24 hours a day for over 5 days. This year involved a team of over 20 people from Gundaroo, Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Canberra and surrounding towns.
I will be launching this collection soon, watch this space! Buying part of this collection is investing in the future of Australian woodfired ceramics.
