6 day anagama wood firing
Last week I had the privilege of being part of the firing crew for Ian Jones’ huge anagama style wood kiln.
This kiln is an absolute beast. It has a huge firebox and eats a lot of wood! If you see any of the images from this firing, you’ll notice a lot of safety gear like a metal face mesh, leather aprons and welding gloves. It’s bloody hot stoking in the front, and takes a crew of people to feed it 24/7 for close to a week.
Because it’s such a huge undertaking (think 20+ tonnes of wood) it brings together a community of established and emerging artists to fire it. On the crew this year were some super awesome people like Allesandro di Sarno, Rick Bevis, Jacky and Ceceline from Everything Flows Studio, and many more.
I can’t wait to see how these pots turned out, stay tuned for results after the unpack on 7 October!
